Sacagawea/Native American

Attempting to learn from past dollar coin failures, the United States Mint introduced the Sacagawea Dollar in 2000. The coin was given a distinctive golden color and a plain edge to help distinguish it from other denominations. Unfortunately, also like Eisenhower and Susan B. Anthony Dollars, the Sacagawea Dollar had difficulty gaining popularity. Beginning in 2002, the Mint cut production and began only producing coins for the collecting public.
