Jefferson

The Jefferson Nickel was introduced in 1938 as a replacement to the popular Buffalo Nickel design and has remain largely unchanged since. In 2004 and 2005 special reverse designs were introduced to commemorate the bicentennial of the Louisiana Purchase and historic Louis and Clark expedition. In 2005 and 2006, the obverse of the nickel underwent a design change, which remains in use today.
